Palmela is a town belonging to the District of Setúbal. A semi-rural town, located on the hillside of Arrábida, it was once a fortress, conquered from the Moors by the First King of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, in the 12th century. Today the castle offers a unique view of the Setubal Peninsula, Lisbon, and the Atlantic Coast.
The region stands out for the production of wine, fruit, and is home to some producers of Azeitão Cheese. To celebrate the wine culture, the town organizes several festivities dedicated to these traditional products, the most famous being the Grape Harvest Festival (Festa das Vindimas), which includes a parade, shows and the release of bulls, and the Festival of Cheese, Bread and Wine.

Palmela enjoys excellent access to the main freeways and expressways of the Lisbon region. In turn, the direct connection by train to Lisbon and Setubal increase the mobility of those who commute daily in the region.
In terms of educational services, Palmela offers a great diversity of public schools and even private colleges, which privilege international education, with the renowned S. Peter’s International School standing out.

Palmela é uma vila pertencente ao Distrito de Setúbal. Uma vila semi-rural, localizada na encosta da Arrábida, outrora uma fortaleza, foi conquistada aos mouros, pelo Primeiro Rei de Portugal, D.
